Inspirational Quotes

It is a good rule to face difficulties at the time they arise and not allow them to increase unacknowledged.
-- Edward W. Ziegler"teachers of entering school-agers do hope that the children who come into their classrooms can concentrate, pay attention, and be considerate of others. These areas are developed not by using flashcards or computer programs, but through interacting with peers during play.” – Dr. Elena Bodrova.

"- passion to create a safer more just world for all kids is still there and I suppose will be there till I die" Loise Derman-Sparks

Personal Childhood Web

My mom
Haeni Aliecia Miller Young, Mom, Mommy, Mrs. Young- Haeni as I now affectionately call her. Where shall I start for such a beautiful soul? My mom has been my rock, guardian, shield, and protector, my everything. She has been an educator for the past 30 something years, she encouraged me, she ensured I got a good education, she ensured I was well rounded and she has influenced me in finalizing my decision in pursuing my career. My mom and I did not always get along, I was somewhat of an introvert and did not like to talk to anyone, but whenever my mom saw something wrong she would come to my room and close the door and talk, usually this is how I would relay information as to what was wrong with me at the time. As I grew older and made my move to Japan, I have realized that I simply cannot do without her- thank God for Skype! I am not going to write an epistle but I am sure I could, my mom has taught me the definition of hard work that is how you reap success. I love my mommy.

My Dad
I had to do my parents separately even though they have been married for some 30 odd years; they have influenced my life in different ways. My dad is and always will be my protector, I am the definition of dad’s little girl. My dad always made sure I had my educational material and even as I pursue this degree, it was his second question “So do you have your textbooks, do you need any textbooks”. My father loves to read, he has a myriad of books; I can hardly recall not seeing my father reading.  My dad encouraged me in school, whenever I had swimming classes he would try to leave work a little early so he could watch me try to “swim”, more like splashing in the water, but I enjoyed those days.  My dad loves his children unconditionally; I admire and respect him so much. I sent him a picture some weeks ago of “Daddy thanks for being my listener, hero, financial support, mentor, friend, chauffeur” he has been all of that and more! Love my daddy.

Auntie Adell
My auntie has been in the education sector for many years over 40 I believe, she has always checked on my educational progress and has offered my financial support. Nevertheless, more importantly she has helped me in maintaining good grades and a high standard for life.  We also both share a love for travel and love to share our stories; of course, she has more stories than I do.  I salute her for being such a great influence in my life.

My First Grade Teacher- Mrs. Monique
Many years ago, I entered elementary school, a young, frail child going into a child with about 40 other kids and Mrs. Montique made me feel like I was one of her children that she birthed. As soon as I read the assignment, her name immediately came to mind. Even though Mrs. Montique had some 40 odd children to teach as first graders, she looked after each one of us, I do not think it anyone had any special treatment to speak of but she took care of us. She made sure we ate, she took her time to explain problems, and she scolded us when we were wrong, but she was a caring human being, and I can clearly remember her now, as if it were yesterday.

My Bestie
Dwight, Dwiggy as I like to call him has been in my life for about 5 years, but even though he has not been in my life from age one, he is my lifetime friend. He encourages me; he ensures that I have my head on straight and that I keep focused on the task. He has been a rock and in doing this assignment, I immediately recognized him as someone who has influenced my life greatly. Everyone needs a friend for his or her lifetime. He always tells me to “do it, get it done” simply put, but helps me to keep focus.

third time around

I have chosen to upload the video of the late, great and one of my favorite singers Whitney Houston's song "Greatest Love of All". The very first stanza of the songs goes
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

I remember this song well, I definitely agree with the lyrics, the children are our future and how we teach and what we teach will have a great influence on their life. Please take a listen to the song.

Part Deux

I'm probably the luckiest person in the world to actually have one of my favorite childhood books still in good shape which I brought along with me to Japan. I carried the book because I wasn't certain on what my teaching aesthetic would be in the beginning. The title of the book is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?"....long title but a popular book that was publish 28 years ago. The book goes through a series of colors and animals and finally as a bit of suspense the monkey is asked what he sees and the answer is "I see children looking at me" which always ellicits laughter. The book is well illustrated and was a poignant memory in my personal development.

Personalizing my Blog :part 1

Thats me on the right!lol.
The title should probably be, "learning more about me", but I will stick to the task at hand. So we are to add a recent picture of ourselves, but I don't like being in pictures that much. This is a recent picture taken with some of my Junior High School kids after my Halloween presentation, I asked them to do a "Thriller Pose", so that was the end result.
