Team Development

This week we learned about the five stages of team development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. When considering the adjourning phase of one group that I was involved in, I can not recall happy moments.

Due to the lack of communication that existed in the group, I think many of the members were so happy the project was over that they just wanted to move on without any attachment. I think it was a relief when we could end the team work. There was no collective recognition of each members contribution, we were happy it was over. It showed that we were never a part of an effective and communicative team.

Concerning my Walden University colleagues, I can tell that I do not want to adjourn this team. I appreciate working with different individuals, we hare our experiences and our wisdom with one another. I feel like I am apart of a team even though we are not physically in the same region. I have received advice and their is a comfort level that shows we genuinely care for one another. We have established trust and still maintain a level of professionalism that is second to none.I have enjoyed sharing personal stories and learning about how other perceive me and my work.

Adjourning is an important part of the teamwork because it creates a level of respect and understanding for all the participants in the team. And it shows that the task has been completed, it is necessary that we complete tasks together.

  1. I think you said it best when you stated that although we are not physically around each other, we still support and share advice with our Walden Colleagues. I have coworkers who are doing online work through another University. When I tell them about the different conversations I have had through discussion and blogs, they feel as though they are missing out. They only do the work assigned and have no interaction with anyone other then the professor. We are part of a unique opportunity to meet people from all over.

  2. I have been in those situations where I could not wait for a group to end. Especially in those situations where someone is not pulling their weight or feel like they know everything. When there is not communication in a group its hard to get things done, especially in a timely fashion.

  3. Hi Kalisha,
I have enjoyed reading your comprehensive posting. Certainly, I did appreciate working along with all of my team members at Walden University. For sure, we have learned a lot from each other, and now is the time for all to celebrate the success of the program, and capture best practices for future use. Ideally, trust was the key factor in team building, and a needed enabler for cooperation.
    Joanne.

  4. Hi Kalisha,
It was interesting to read about the contrast between the two teams. I am glad that this has been a positive experience. I am glad to have been in your communication group the last couple of semesters!
